SUBMISSION: souvenirs from three months in autignac, france (mary jo hoffman)

Dear independent music store supporters,
We’re entering our 4th week of soft-operation and there’s community things in the works. We want to highlight some future plans:
1) Independent Music
June is dedicated to providing access to local and independent music.
We only carry vinyl and cassettes. If you don’t have music available in either of these formats we can still contribute with access to great resources such as: innovative recording studios and places to get music duplicated and pressed. If you already have an LP, 7” or a demo tape, we will be happy to consign them at the shop for you and tell people about your music.
2) June Gallery: Art & Limited Merchandise
June is planning to launch a quarterly art series of original art, photography, etc. on our rear east and west walls. Each quarter we will set a theme of concise parameters and create a sense of unique context. We will consider all submissions and then select 3-6 pieces to hang on our East Wall for three months. The first series and opening date has not been set yet, we’re currently assembling a committee for the purpose of: curation, promotion, partnerships and development of this ongoing project.
On the opposite wall, there will be original artist created merchandise (such as printed tee shirts) that will all have a limited run (each item numbered). These limited items will fit the theme of each series and will also be available quarterly.
3) The Dark Room
At the back room of June Records is our work area that becomes The Dark Room after hours. The Dark Room will host multiple after hour events such as: screenings, presentations, workshops and live avant garde/experimental/noise performances.
The screenings will consist of both social (music and art related) films and screenings of independent shorts, films and documentaries.
4) More…
We will also be hosting live in-store performances and will encourage artists and musicians to avoid playing regular sets they would normally perform in a more traditional venue. The goal is to create an alternative performance space in which artists need not feel confined to any creative expectations. We want all musicians who perform at June to feel comfortable exploring the parameters of live performance and challenging the expectations of audiences within the shop.
We will try to document these performances to the best of our ability. Some of the recordings may be considered for a future series of 7” releases. This is yet to be determined.
A note to the community
If you wish to use June Records to facilitate an opening or launch for music/art/literary community and DIY related events let us know what you have in mind.
If you are interested in contributing, submitting, organizing or participating in any capacity please feel free to contact Ian or just come by the shop (we have an espresso machine) and hang out.
Be seeing you,
June Records
