Week 3: Shout outs, thanks & things brewing.

Entering our 3rd week, we’ve been super busy building the shop and our community to bring an exciting addition to the Toronto vinyl and music culture scene.  There’s now some due thanks and shout outs that must be handed out.

Firstly, thanks to all Toronto vinyl and music lovers for the overwhelming support and love over the past couple weeks of our soft launch.  We’ve re-connected and met so many amazing people in the community and appreciate all the business, feedback and collaboration possibilities.  June Records is building up to be a special place.

Regarding collaboration and support, here’s our shout out list after 3 weeks of operation (in no particular order):

  • Tad Michalak of Burn Down The City for live music event collaboration.  Tad’s a show and tour music promoter in Toronto and has worked with some super sweet bands and artists.  If you’re looking for some underground, experimental, and bleeding edge stuff, Tad’s a guy to connect with!
  • Joseph Fuda of Fudagraphy and OZ Studios for taking photos of our shop and joining our team of photographers for future documentation of events and openings happening at the shop.  Joseph is a professional photographer and runs OZ Studios, a gallery on Ossington in Toronto that hosts both art openings and musical performances.
  • Emily Keeler of Little Brother Magazine for working with us on hosting our first Magazine Launch!  Emily is starting a new magazine in TO about arts and culture that’s slated to launch in August.  She’s also on the look out for submissions so if you’re looking for more opportunities in the literary or photography realm, check her out!
  • Sarah-Jane Wofman Ford, stand up comedian, zen-quiz-master and manager of Queen Video (College St.), for being around.  Sarah is working with us to help organize our film screening and quarterly art series ambitions.  She’s probably one of the coolest people I know.
  • Vjosana Shkurti, independent video/photographer for helping with some of June’s future video promotional material, and with organize our film screening and quarterly art series ambitions.  Vjosana has great aesthetic taste and some of her work can be seen here.
  • Chris Iler, an institution in the Canadian punk scene, dropped of some Fans Of Bad Productions Records wax for us with some of the best DIY Canadian hardcore/punk recordings I’ve feasted ears on.  I was floored by the double LP 50 Canadian Punk Bands comp (both in sound and line up).  We want to work with more passionate people like Chris that know “the good stuff” in all genres of DIY music.  Thank Chris!
  • Nyles Miszczyk, producer, musician, and sound engineer (also works at Moog Audio) for being our official in-house recording engineer and sound specialist for our future live performances.  Nyles’ ear, taste and reputation is regarded highly in the Toronto independent music community for both his knowledge of musical equipment and as a producer.  We’re lucky to have Nyles in our group.
  • Melody Lau of BlogTO for visiting and the great write up!  One of BlogTO’s newest staff, Melody is a great “go to” if you have music news and happenings in Toronto.
  • Ian Worang of TheGridTO for visiting and writing the great story on our shop! Ian’s an awesome guy that’s also into music and vinyl. We had fun interviewing with him.
  • Doug Brown of IDIGS blog, documentary film maker, school teacher and a well known and respected all around vinyl “head”. Doug also organizes the annual Mid Town Record Show (FB Page) in Toronto.  Doug was nice enough to do a story on us on his blog and will also be screening his feature length documentary at June Records, stay posted on that one!

There’s also a lot of people that have helped who are not on this list.  For all those collaborators, family and friends: “THANK YOU” for all you’ve helped us with, we wouldn’t be here without your continuing support.

Love and appreciation,

June Records
